Fitted Kitchen Ideas For 2024

Updated: Sep 23

If 2024 is the year you plan to do your kitchen, you’re probably looking for fitted kitchen ideas that will help you design yours. Luckily, we have rounded up some of the most interesting, useful and stylish concepts for you to take a look at.

Here they are;

Floor To Ceiling Cupboards
Traditionally, British homes have always had space above kitchen cabinets. It was primarily used to hide wires and pipework but also made cabinets cheaper to build and easier to install in a uniform manner.

Nowadays, though, floor-to-ceiling cabinets have become a popular alternative. Not only do they provide lots more storage space, but they can also make your kitchen look sleek and contemporary.

At Living Dimensions, we work with our clients to design cabinets that suit their lifestyles. For some, a clean, modern aesthetic is the aim, and we build smooth, white kitchen cupboards that look spectacular with a dark granite or natural wood worktop. For others, a heritage look is more desirable, so we can incorporate shaker-style cabinet doors, vintage or retro features or use traditional materials.

The beauty of bespoke kitchen cabinets is that you can design them to perfectly suit your home - need extra space to store your bread maker, air fryer and slow cooker? Then making the most of the space above your kitchen cupboards is ideal. And there are fewer surfaces to collect dust, so less cleaning - what an all-round winner!
Impactful Colour
For a time, it felt like everyone was choosing grey for their interiors. Don’t get us wrong, grey is a brilliant colour to work with, but we do love a bit of colour!

2024 will see more diversity in kitchen colours - from cheerful, pretty pastels to strong, bold tones. Choosing what colour to go for can be one of the hardest decisions when looking through your fitted kitchen ideas - there are merits to soft shades, bright tones and dark hues!

Soft Shades A muted palette can help a small kitchen look bigger while still adding colour. Buttermilk yellow or pale mint are popular in a kitchen, as they feel warm and cheerful. You can opt for colour on your walls with white or grey kitchen cabinets, or if you’re committed to your design and don’t plan a colour scheme change any time soon, pick a fitted kitchen in your favourite shade and offset the colour with white walls.

Bright Tones
Vibrant colours will make your kitchen a talking point. Kitchen cabinets can be finished in any colour, from fuchsia pink to radiant red. A bright kitchen creates a lively atmosphere, so if you’re looking to create a tranquil space, you’re best keeping to muted or dark colours.

Brights can overwhelm a room, so if you’re tight on space, think about using colour as an accent rather than the base. Having your lower cabinets in colour and your top ones in a neutral shade is a good way to create harmony.

Dark Hues
Dark blue kitchens will always be a favourite of ours. There’s something classically elegant about the rich, dark colour contrasted against a brilliant white background. But this year, we expect to see other colours used in kitchen design. Burgundy red, emerald green and plum all offer exciting possibilities that can add drama and interest to your kitchen.

A strong colour adds character to your space, so if your fitted kitchen ideas include making your mark on your home, it’s worth considering.

Bold Splashbacks
Splashbacks are the unsung hero of the kitchen. They protect your walls from water and grease and, for a long time, have been treated as a functional asset. But they can be so much more than that - they can introduce colour and texture to your interior design.

Make sure you explore all that splashbacks have to offer when compiling your fitted kitchen ideas wish list. We’ve seen some extraordinary options, like copper and natural stone.

Stylish Sinks
If you’re going to redo your whole kitchen, you can’t forget the kitchen sink. There are so many sink choices available, so be prepared to weigh up your options.

Big families will do well to look at deep sinks like a farmhouse-style one or a double basin. And if you’re worried you’ll have to stick to plain ceramic or stainless steel, don’t fret. Even large kitchen sinks come in various materials, from granite to brushed copper covered steel to red granite composite!

Open Shelving

In contrast to adding extra cabinet space, some homeowners plan to do away with top cabinets entirely. Open shelving has been creeping in as a trend for some time, and in 2023 we think we’ll see more of it.
Open shelving feels homely and cosy and can make meal prepping quicker. While kitchen cupboards can make a small kitchen feel smaller, open shelves open up the space.

They’re ideal for showcasing beautiful keepsakes and pieces - you can even make a feature of your pots and pans if they’re not too battered. It ties nicely to the increase in the use of no-plastic shopping; dry goods like pasta, flour and spices look spectacular in glass jars along a shelf.

They’re not without drawbacks, however. If you’re naturally inclined to clutter, your shelves can become messy and disorganised. And you will have to make dusting a regular feature of your cleaning schedule - open shelves don’t leave much room for slacking off your cleaning!
